PIUMA MOBILE VCT UP AGAIN!

PIUMA mobile VCT resume the service at different villages in Makete district. Today the programme started at Luwumbu village almost 11km from Bulongwa area.

 

On arriving the place we met  people anxiously waiting to be tested. It was about 11:00am and the schedule bagan by introduction to PIUMA team led by BIG CHAIRMAN!Kabuyu,followed by secretary Ms Wema ,then Ms Kabelege ,the counsellor and finally Ag,  executive officer.

 

On other hand the Village local Leader introduced himself, and  explain shortly about Luwumbu village, its coverage, economic activity, people behavioural altitude,etc..etc.

 

Then PIUMA chairman,eraborate  to the villagers about PIUMA,Why we’re there, important of being tested, telling himself as a role model in HIV/AIDS campaign.  After this  interesting ‘’break the ice’’ done by BIG chairman.The villagers arrange themselves for counselling and testing done by counsellor and PIUMA clinician.

 

As time getting fast the number of individual was increasing, people from different social/economical activity came to join the event.

 

Due to time factor, we terminate the service at  5:15 pm leaving some few villagers without testing, telling them to come at VCT center when they get time.

 

Villagers capable to lead were been given leaflets, and some been given condoms. We left the place at about 5:30.

 

52 villagers have been tested, some as second round and some for the first time.

Data, and results  implication will follow…..

    Hongera Sana! It has taken us many months to re-establish this service but the need is still very great. I have given up hope that local health officials can be exhorted or shamed into better performance on this matter. It shouldn’t be this way, but thank goodness PIUMA at least is willing to fight this battle.
