Shirika hili limeanza tangu mwaka 23/4/2005 likiwa na wanachama 7 na mpaka sasa shirika hili lina wanachama 173.
Mategemeo ya shirika hili ni kuleta ushawishi wa kwenda kupima kwa hiari ili wananchi waondoe wasiwasi wao juu ya afya zao na kuleta nguvu ya kuishi kwa matumaini.
Malengo na madhumuni ya PIUMA.
- Kutoa elimu ya UKIMWI kw ajamii.
- Kuelimisha jamii jinsi ya kuishi kwa matumaini ili kupunguza maambukizi.
- Kuhamasisha kupima kwa hiari badala ya kusubiri kuugua.
- Kuhakikisha haki za waathirika wa UKIMWI zinapatikana na jamii haiwatengi na kuwanyanyapaa.
- Kusaidia huduma ya wagonjwa majumbani n.k. (HBC)
- Mobile VCT
- Kushiriki katika kutokomeza tatizo la UFISADI katik mapambano dhidi ya UKIMWI na jamii kwa ujumla.
Na kazi hizi zote zinafanywa kwa kujitolea na wanachama wa PIUMA.
Mwaka 2007 wakati wa kampeni ya Rais Jakaya Kikwete ya upimaji wa VVU kwa hiari, PIUMA kama NGO isiyokuwa ya Kiserikali iliongoza kwa upimaji, ilipima katika Tarafa mbili Bulongwa na Magoma, kati ya NGOs zote zilizopo Wilayani Makete.
Jumla ya watu waliopimwa kuanzia mwezi wa saba mpaka wakati wa kuisha kampeni ni kama ifuatavyo hapa chini baada ya tafsiri ya kiingereza.

Test and Live with Hope
PIUMA is a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO), which was founded under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act number 24 of 2002.
The organization was founded with seven members, on April 23rd, 2005. By 2008, the organization has grown to include 173 members.
PIUMA’s fundamental intention is to raise awareness of HIV and testing in order to improve the health condition of the people living in Makete District, Tanzania.
The following are PIUMA’s goals:
- To provide education on HIV/AIDS.
- To educate the community about how to live with hope so as to reduce further infection.
- To promote voluntary testing before getting infected.
- To make sure that people living with HIV and the community know their rights so as to eliminate stigma.
- To conduct mobile Voluntary Counseling and Testing in villages without health services.
- To fully participate in the eradication of corruption and bureaucratic inaction in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
All of the above duties must be performed by PIUMA members.
In 2007, during the presidential voluntary testing campaign, PIUMA as an NGO took an active role in testing in the areas of Bulongwa and Magoma. PIUMA took on this duty regardless of other NGOs present in the Makete District.
LEADERSHIP :
PIUMA leader are drawn from people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).
